| Montego Bay | Jamaica in August? Posted: Fri March 28, 2008 02:33 PM UTC
Hi there
My partner and I are currently planning our honeymoon. We are seriously considering the Sandals Royaly Carribbean resort in Jamaica and would be staying for two weeks at the beginning of August. We love the look of the resort and the country, but have heard that the weather at this time of year is less predictable with rain almost every day. Is this accurate? We so want to go but cant change the dates. Obviously we dont want to go somewhere which is going to be a wash out but jamaica is the one place we both desparately want to visit. Its a tough call...Do we go or not!?? Thanks Jason |

With the Caribbean (and other North American locations)being unpredictable, especially the past few years, August is probably a shoulder month from a weather perspective. There could be early hurricanes or storms in the area (more likely late August than early August though). It is the "rainy" season however.
As with most locations in the area, you can generally plan on nice mornings and mid-days but thunderstorms and rain for the afternoon. I like it however as it cools things down and it is generally generally short-lived and the evenings are nice again (a good time to take a nap).

If ANY rain amount will cause an issue, then yes, you might avoid Jamaica or anywhere in the central or northern Caribbean at that time.
Like Hawaii and other tropical locations however, they aren't lush-green because it is dry most of the time. I was in Jamaica last summer (late May and early June) and it was supposed to be "dry" but it sprinkled almost every afternoon however it did not disrupt anything I had planned. I am returning next month for a week and supposedly this is also the "drier" season but we will see. Perhaps you may want to consider more of the "desert" islands like Aruba instead for that time frame?

We went to Sandals Ocho Rios in August a few years back and although they say it rains everyday that time of year we were lucky and never saw a drop! I have heard that during that time the rain can vary from a light drizzle for 5 minutes to torrential downpours, though. Check out the Sandals website. They used to have a rain refund policy.

Trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local on the day variations.
This information should be used as a guide only. Here is the average weather for Montego Bay for this time of year. Enjoy your holiday. August High 87f/31c Low 77f/25c

I've been to jamaica at least 2 times a year for the last 6 years and if it rains at all in august its only about 1/2 an hour and the sun comes back out.
We have been to almost every sandals in jamaica and they are just not as nice as the sandals montego bay! the staff are cool, the beach is hugh plenty of privacy if you want and its really close to the air port so you don't spend all day on a bus. The nosise from the planes are only for a few seconds and between 9pm and 8am the don't fly unless a flight is late getting to jamaica. The food is good and plenty the drinks can be as strong or as weak as you want. The resort is layed out great the grounds are beatiful and if you want to go into town a you are about 10 mins away. Me and my husband are booked at sandals montego bay the first week of august We love going back there its so much fun. Hopefully you will change your mind and come to sandals mobay after all you can take the shuttle over to the other sandals in mobay and check them out to. The sandals inn is not anything to see its in town and its like a motel. any questions feel free to ask
