Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Thailand Bangkok schedule
Posted: Fri March 28, 2008 02:40 AM UTC
I only have 2 full days in Bangkok and here is my list to do:

Grand Palace
Wat Pho
Wat Arun
Wat Traimit
I will be staying a the Majestic Grande which I understand is near the Skytrain. I cannot figure which of the sites to grouup to see on the same day. And if I take the Skytrain to them or a taxi?

Can you help? Thanks for any suggestions

Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun are in the same area around the river (are called Rattanoksin). My suggestion would be to do the Grand Palace first, around 10.00am for opening, then Wat Pho after that (it is almost next door to the palace), then cross the river on the public boat to Wat Arun...

You can't get a skytrain all the way into this area but you can get a skytrain to Taksin Bridge (Supan Taksin) and at the bottom of the station there is a river boat stop. Take the public boat up the river. It's dead easy. Good views. Pleasant breeze. Dirt cheap.

Wat Traimit is in the Chinatown area. You could probably knock off Wat Traimit on the same day if you weren't templed out.

Map's found here... http://www.bangkok-maps.com/
Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun is in the Riverside section Area 4.
Wat Traimit is the bottom right of Riverside section Area 5.

Your best bet if your staying at the Majestic Grande, would be to take the BTS from Ploenchit station, transfer at Siam, then get off at Saphin Taksin. Then take a longtail boat from Tha Satorn pier up to the Tha Tien river pier. Walking Distance to Grand Palace, Wat Po and Wat Phra Kaew. Wat Arun is on the opposite side of the river. You could stop their on your way back to the BTS station.

Hi -

you can do all of these in the same day - the Grand Palace/Wat Pho/Wat Arun are all in the same area and the Skytrain riverboat is a good way to get there. Wat Pho opens at 8am so if you can manage an early start, it would be a good time to arrive. After seeing these 3, you can get to Wat Traimit by either tuk-tuk (agree the price before you get in) or back on the river-boat to Tha Ratchawong and a fairly long walk through Chinatown.

Wat Traimit is very close to the end of the metro/subway line at Hualumphong mainline train station - so getting back to the hotel from there is easy. Take the subway back to Sukhumvit station and change to the Skytrain for one stop (or walk from Sukhumvit metro back to the hotel - it's not far).

Cheers,

Jeremy

Thanks so much for your very helpful suggestions. I am taking my teenage niece and I'm so excited and don't want to temple her out by doing them all in one day. I did not mention we have 4 days and have reserved 2 for the klongs, floating market, shopping and roaming. So of the previous sites I have mentioned which ones require (or deserve) more time than the others?

Again, Many Thanks!

Hi -

just to reply to your last query - out of the places you mention, the Grand Palace will probably take up the most time (you go round the Temple of the Emerald Buddha first, and there are also a couple of small museums on the site you can choose to look around as well). While the other locations are well worth the visit, they won't take all that long to go around.

Cheers,

Jeremy
