Hello! I am coming to Rio in November...
I want to bring home a few pairs of Havaianas for myself and friends for gifts. I know they are made in Brazil... This probably sounds silly, but how much are they there, cheaper than in the U.S ($10-30+USD or so)? Are there a lot of knock-offs (which I don't want) or are they pretty easy to spot? Are they easy to find or only sold in a few places??

I also took home some Havaianas on my trip to Rio! They're absolutely great, always regret not taking more. First of all, they are everywhere, on the street corners, in small shops in larger stores, really everywhere (I stayed in Ipanema, but I'm sure they are just as widely available closer to Copacabana). There are some knock-offs (I bought a pair by mistake), but they cost the same and have the same style, but they don't have the name 'havaianas' on them... So they are easy to spot, I made a really stupid mistake, but hey I'm still wearing them and they're just as comfy. The price ranges from about $5 to $10 if I remember correctly (that was about a year ago). In South Africa they pretty much always cost about $25, so for me that was a very good price... You won´t have trouble finding havaianas...it´s the basics of the brazilian wardrobe...you can find them in supermarkets, pharmacies and even in newspaper stores....the price range is usually from 3 to 10 USD, depending on the style you choose. If you want to get many probably the best place to buy are big supermarkets...avoid the tourist shops, there you´ll certainly get ripped off!

last time i left rio i brought about 5 pairs home for me and presents.

there is a shop in Copacabana that has the biggest selection i've seen.
if i remember correctly it's on the corner of Barata Ribeiro and Figueredo Magalhaes. seriously the whole store is dedicated to the things.

In downtown, in an area called "Saara" they go for about R$ 10,00 - R$ 20,00 depending of the model.
