Sevilla Sevilla as a base in July?
Posted: Fri March 28, 2008 01:22 AM UTC
Hi VT gang, In July I plan on using Sevilla as a base for day trips to Ronda, Cordoba, etc. Other than staying near the train station, and getting a hotel with AC, will I need to book a hotel with a pool, or are there other places one can cool down after a day of running around? 2nd Q, after Granada, should I do Valencia or S to Malaga/Marbella/Cadiz? TIA, Karl

After Granada I would go to Cadiz or Velencia not Malaga. That's my opinion though as I don't like resorts or going to places over run by tourists like Malaga. Plus the fact Malaga capital isn't as pretty as many other towns in Andalucia or Valencia. I would only go to Marbella if it was to meet up with other VTrs such as Carmella and beach dog. You could always stop off there going from Cadiz to Granada or visa versa.

Valencia is pretty far from Granada, depending on how much time you have. If you are coming for the whole month of July then I'm sure you'll have time.

Just so you know, Cordoba has much cheaper hotels than Sevilla and other towns.
We always stay in butique hotels when we travel and Sevilla was the most dificult to find a place and the most expensive.
We travel by rental car and make no reservations what so ever.
We arive to the old part of town, park and look for friendly (AC, bathroom) hotel.
See my pages for adresses.
Valencia is much different then the other towns you mentioned and I strongly recomand it. I have posted nice hotel within 2 blocks of the main train station.

That's a thought ! use Cordoba as your base? It is not that large and if you stay in the old quarter it is fairly easy walk into the train or bus stations. The railway line between Cordoba and Seville is on the AVE fast line, and apart from the AVE you have the AVANT train that is just as good and quick (45mins) and is cheaper. Cordoba was THE base for the moors during those earlier days of their stay and they certainly knew that it was convenient. AVANT is AC as well ! You can get down to Ronda BY TRAIN! And now the AVANT is going from Cordoba to Malaga, you can get down to the seaside and build sandcastles in just over an hour. Beats the car. Instead of hitting Malaga beach apparently Torremolinos beach is quite fine too - not far to get to if you use the half hourly train from Malaga.
getting to Granada from Cordoba is either a bus or train journey. I am sure there is a hotel in Cordoba with a pool near the centre.

Oh forget that plan.

Stay in Seville then take the train down to Cadiz and enjoy the Atlantic air and the beaches. Much nicer than California.

If people are saying why not stay in Cordoba instead of Sevilla then why not just change it completely and base yourself in Granada which is nicer than Cordoba and I (personally) prefer it to sevilla too :P

It is also linked to all the places you mentioned including Valencia.

I appreciate all of your replies. I considered staying in Cordoba, but it seemed like most of the nightlife was non existent. I was also thinking that Sevilla would be closer for a day trip to Ronda. I am kind of running out of days, 11 -12, so I don't think I can do both Cadiz and Valencia. Warmest travel wishes to all, Karl
