| Italy | Where to stay near Naples for the best of everything.... Posted: Thu March 27, 2008 09:24 PM UTC
Hi,
My sister and I are going planning a trip to Italy in July. We're only just formulating the plans and I haven't read up on the area yet but we've decided on near Naples as we want to visit Pompeii and I've heard there are some beautiful beaches nearby. My sister is a huge fan of pizza and Italian food in general so we'd love to stay somewhere with a variety of excellent, cheap restaurants. Being near a beach would be good but not somewhere too quiet as we'd like to do some partying as well. We'd be planning on camping or staying in a cheap guest house. Any ideas for the perfect location? Thanks for your ideas! Annie |

We stayed in Sorrento, which has excellent connections for visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum,. Villa Oplontis, etc. and Naples. See my pages for Sorrento and Naples. Food is not partiuclarly cheap. We were there in February which is off-season. As we left at the beginning of March there were signs that the place was gearing up for the tourist season. There appeared to be a lot of clubs, etc. No beaches as it's too cliffy. Don't know where you would go to find "beautiful beaches". Sorrento and the whole Amalfi Coast will be very busy and hot in July. Naples will be stifling but that said, it is a fascinating city but not for the faint-hearted.

Well, the Amalfi Coast is a must!! It's really a wonderful area. Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Furore... everythings beautiful. But hawkhead is right. The whole area will be packed with turists in July. I guess you have to check accommodation already. During summer time the whole area won't be cheap at all.
check out this link. http://www.amalficoast.com/ By the way, I don't know if you know the hospitality Club. It's a page where people all around the world provide accommodation for travellers. It's free and I think it's very helpful because you meet locals and they can show you around. There are some people in Neaples and Pompeii that do to host travellers. Sign in and check it out. http://secure.hospitalityclub.org/hc/login.php Have fun in Campania
