The nearest airport to Cadiz, is at Jerez de la Frontera (1 hour away by bus). No-frills airlines that fly there include Spanair, Vueling and Ryanair (London Stansted and Frankfurt Hahn), see http://www.andalucia.com/travel/airports/jerez.htm.
Charter companies are used by package tour operators to fly their customers to package tour destinations, and these also offer flight-only deals - from Brussels, for example, Jetairfly and Thomas Cook Airlines/Condor, who also fly to Jerez from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Munich and Stuttgart.

As your from London, it looks like Ryanair from Stansted is your only practical option. We've done that trip four times now. To get from Jerez airport to Cadiz, you can travel by bus or train - the train is a good option. If you need further information, have a look at the Jerez de la Frontera page, or ask again in this forum as there are several local members that can tell you more.

I came to give my advice but I see great advise has already been given.
From Jerez to Cadiz you can get a bus directly from the airport. It only costs you 3 euros. If you go to my Jerez page you will find out times and a link to the official time table: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/78716/40cf1/9/ I live in Cadiz so the information is up to date. it is not far, only about 40 mins.

Try this link for Jerez to Cadiz buses: http://www.cmtbc.es/sistema.php?op=2
Then click on Cadiz-Jerez. Aeropuerto in airport which is pretty easy to work out ;)You will see times for both directions.

Julie, what's the difference between the 50, 51 and 52 buses ? Is it just different routes serving the places in between ?

That's exactly what it is. The M 050 is the best if travelling straight to Cadiz as it only stops in Jerez centre and Cadiz. The M 051 stops in El Puerto de Santa Maria too and the others stop in more places including the University!
