Chicago Place to stay near Toyota Park
Posted: Thu March 27, 2008 05:15 PM UTC
Hello. My daughter and I will be going to Toyota Park for a concert this summer. Can you recommend some nice hotels (not motels) in the area to check out? We won't have time to go into Chicago, so that's not a concern. A place within a 30-minute drive or so would be good. Will be heading back to Michigan the next day. Thanks.

There are 2 hotels somewhat close by.

The first is Exel Inn at 9625 S 76th in Hickory Hills. It is about a 10 minute drive (4 miles) from Toyota Park. This hotel is just south of Toyota Park. You would just drive north on Harlem Ave and Toyota Park will be on your left. This should be your first choice. Neighborhood is fine. I grew up in Hickory Hills.

The second option is a Fairfield Inn by Marriott at 6630 S Cicero. This is near Midway Airport, a bit longer drive and more traffic. I only suggest this in case you are a Marriott member and want to earn points.

It looks like there is a group of hotels near Midway Airport that are about 5 miles away from Toyota Park including a Hilton, Marriott, Hampton Inn and several others

The Hilton in Oak Lawn would be my choice, though it is near the train tracks (so you'll hear the train going into Chicago at times.) You could drive down Cicero avenue to 79th st., and then cut over further south by turning right on Central and driving through the manufacturing district (so south and then west again. The Park is at the end of that street, after you cross Harlem.) I drive by the complex of motel/hotels associated with Midway that your first responder mentioned, and they seem to be quite nice. However, I would stay away from some of the other motels nearby. There was recently a shooting at a motel in Burbank, near my home town. It was an isolated incident, but very upsetting, of course.

Thanks, all, for your suggestions. Gives me plenty to check out. (I only wish we could stay longer.)
