Isla Holbox Questions about Holbox
Posted: Thu March 27, 2008 02:37 AM UTC
My husband and I are thinking of visiting late June/early July and his only concern is the water. He wants crystal clear blue water like in the Caribbean. Everything else about the island seems perfect and exactly what we are looking for. Can anyone comment on the clarity and "blueness" of the water? We are thinking of staying at Villas Paraiso del Mar. How is the food? My husband is a picky eater. And, is the suite worth the $100 more than the junior suite?

Thanks in advance!

Holbox is not on the Caribbean. It is on the Gulf of Mexico. Therefore the water tends to be green rather than turquoise. Sometimes it's clear. Mostly it isn't. I know virtually nothing about Paraiso del Mar. I have eaten there a couple of times and found the food so-so.

We were in Holbox in December. We stayed at a villa at the end of the beach. The water was nice, but not blue or clear. We ate at several different places, and the food was average, nothing spectacular! Beware of insects! We left early due to bug bites and we tried 3 different repellants that we bought on the island. I wouldnt go back.

Only DEET works as an insect repellent on the island, and it's just not sold there. Bring your own. We use Cutter Deep Woods towelettes. They pack easily and work.
