| Cambridge | American Military Cemetary Cambridge Posted: Thu March 27, 2008 01:45 AM UTC
What train or transportation type do you recommend taking from downtown London to the American Military Cemetary just outside Cambridge? Please indicate travel time, and costs if known. What are the operating hours of the cemetary on Monday or Tuesday during the week.
Thank you Chuck |

Have you seen the official website at http://www.abmc.gov/cemeteries/cemeteries/ca.php
? Most of your questions are answered there. Also look at http://www.transportdirect.info for rail info and pricing. This is not the most user friendly site (perhaps J (leics) will pop in to remind me which one she uses), but on Friday morning (picked at random) between 7 and 8 a.m., there are three trains, taking from 52 to 69 minutes one way. The first one priced at 24.10GBP for round trip 2nd class with both segments on the same day, or 36.80GBP for round trip 2nd class with up to a month to return. These prices are from King's Cross station in London to Cambridge station in Cambridge. Of course, if you take the train, you will need to get to King's Cross, and from the Cambridge station to the cemetery - note that the cemetery website suggests the taxi that are at the station. No idea of the costs... Bill

Without being flippant, I note that there are two similar enquiries within two hours of each other. Maybe you should get together, to share costs! Website says cemetery is within 3 miles of Cambridge, so I imagine a taxi would be less than £10, not that I take UK taxis much.
Cambridge is most easily reached via M11. Trains are from Kings Cross and Liverpool Street. King's Cross is quicker, by about 20 minutes, but choice really depends on where you're starting from in London. I note that there is a commemmorative service on May 26th at 11am. There are several trains from either terminus which would get you to Cambridge comfortably by 10am. Fare is same from either. Advance purchase of return ticket usually costs £18.50 although there is one train at £14.00 http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/en/pj/jp Alternatively, you can get a coach from London Victoria coach station (picks up at other London locations) which runs direct to Cambridge Madingley Road Park & Ride. But I couldn't say how far that is from the cemetery. Day return is £10.80 but first bus doesn't reach there until 10:40am. http://www.nationalexpress.com/ Cemetery is flagged on Google Earth at 52°13'0.22"N 0° 3'13.36"E
