Grand Canyon rim to rim
Posted: Wed March 26, 2008 03:24 AM UTC
A group of college students want to come out from Omaha to go rim to rim.
Understanding that their spring break is in March, what month would be best?
If April, is Hwy 67 kept clear, so vehicles can get down to pick them up?

Highway 67 is not open until some time in late May. Usually just before Memorial Day. Sorry.
In the summer, there's a shuttle that runs between the rims.
Late March or early April is a good time to visit the South Rim. The nights are cold, but, when the sun's out during the day, it's very nice.

You could go rim to rim to rim starting at the south rim.

You could always try camping with a permit overnight. Otherwise like the the other VT Member said, the road to the North Rim will be closed until sometime in May. The elevation is 1,000 feet more.

It is not recommended to go to the Colorado River and back up in the same day. I know people who have done it but they tend to pay for it physically later.

There are some options for you at least. I live in Iowa, but have visited the Canyon a lot and know there is danger. If you have a large part of college students you will need to keep a few things in mind.

Also, you could visit the canyon and do some hiking and move to other attractions in the area. Monument Valley, Zion National Park, Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon to name just a few.

Give us more details.

Mike
