Carcassonne Early morning arrival?
Posted: Wed March 26, 2008 03:54 AM UTC
We're thinking of taking the train from Paris to Carcassonne in June.
Only problems being a very early arrival.
One option is arriving at 5:40 am.
Another is around 7:40 am.
This seems quite early. Is anything open at these hours?
What would one do?

Also wondering about a hostel in Preixan (about 10 km south) Sidsmums Travellers Retreat.
Is it easy to get there from Carcassonne?

On the hostel website

http://www.sidsmums.com/

they write that there is daily bus service to and from Carcassonne daily except Sunday. And the hostel itself provides a daily lift to Carcassonne.

Am going to Carcassonne in January and although I don't plan to arrive that early, from all the info I've seen so far the city is stunning. If you can manage to ditch your luggage for a few hours you could just walk and explore the lovely city until stores open. There may be luggage checking facilities at the station, which would probably also have coffee shops open at the times you arrive.

Regarding luggage storage, Note that there is no luggage lokers neither in the airport nor at Carcassonne's train station. But, there is a way to have your luggage kept for a day or 1/2 day at the Hotel de La Bastide which is a mere 150 mtrs from train station. At least that is what I suggest usualy to my guests(I am a cab driver)when ever I drop them to Carcassonne's station several hours before scheduled time. I think there is a flat charge of 3€.
Enjoy your travelling and our town.
