| Budapest | Tourist Travelcards Posted: Wed March 26, 2008 12:22 AM UTC
I notice that a lot of people suggest buying the 3-day travelcard (as opposed to the Budapest card) but no-one seems to suggest buying the 7 day pass.
The Bkv site states 7-day travelcard HUF 4000 For unlimited number of trips on the marked day and 6 consecutive days from 00.00 to 24.00. It is issued to the name of the holder and valid together with a personal identifying document with a photo. My questions are 1) Is this card available to tourists? 2) Would I have to use my passport as an identity document or are other documents acceptable (UK photo driving licence, work photo ID, photocopy of passport etc) 3) If the ticket is suitable for my needs, what should I ask for (in Hungarian) to buy 2 tickets? Thanks in advance..... |

I can't answer all the other questions but when we bought a 1-day travelcard all we had to say was "ticket" and the clerk would show us all the tickets he had, so we just had to say "no" or "yes" (or nod/shake our heads).
I don't see why you can't buy the 7-day travelcard if you're going to pay the money and fill up the criteria of it (photo ID, etc.).

Replies to your questions
1,/ Yes 2./ Generally we use either identity card or driving licence, both are acceptable 3./ The official name is "heti jegy" which means one week ticket and most of the sale persons speak a little german or/and english. Greetings. L.

Damn, the ones we encountered spoke nothing but Hungarian!
Now I know how to ask for a 7-day card :) Me loves VT.
