| Quillabamba | Hotels and hostels Posted: Tue March 25, 2008 11:44 PM UTC
I plan on conducting research around Quillabamba, Peru this summer (June-July). What are my options for finding a place to stay for about 2 months? Are there places in Quillabamba proper or will I need to find accomodations nearby? I am also open to staying with people in the community if there are opportunities available. Please let me know of the approximate cost or if you know of property that could be rented for a couple months. Thanks!
P.S. Any information about Quillabamba transportation would be helpful too. |

Hi Apresler,
Iīm not surprised no one has replied to you yet because Quillabamba isnīt that touristy at all! I havenīt been there yet but my parents in law are Quillabambinos and have told me many many things about it. Practical stuff: itīs about 4-5 hours from Cusco by bus (small 8-person mini buses, big buses take a bit longer.), and i think it costs around 30 sol one-way. Part of the road isnīt paved, so sometimes there can be delays in your journey because of that. I would advise you to travel by day. As Quillabamba is not touristy at all, you wonīt find that many touristy hostels there, but there are bound to be local hostals that probably charge between 15-30 soles a night. I could probably also get you into contact with some family members if you want to rent a room with them, or to point you in the direction of your own place to rent if you wish so. I donīt think it will be that expensive, maybe 300-500 sol for a small apartment. A room maybe 200 sol a month. If you want to know more, contact me at elisemundo @ gmail.com (without spaces, thatīs junk mail protection), I live in Cusco. Enjoy!
