Boston boston to wells
Posted: Tue March 25, 2008 05:02 PM UTC
hi everyone

i'm flying to NYC from London on 5th of june. then i need to go to wells(ME) on 7th or 8th of june. i'm looking at two routes, one is NYC to boston and then by train to wells and the second is via portland(ME).
if i decide to take the first option, i'm looking at google maps and it seems to me that Logan airport is in walking distance from North Station, where i can get Amtrak service to wells. is this right or maybe i'm looking at a wrong north station?

hi there. i would not recommend trying to walk from from logan to north station. i suppose it is possible but i don't think it is very pedestrian friendly and would take you a while with a lot of directional changes.

i would however suggest taking the free shuttle from logan airport to the subway airport stop on the blue line, transfer at govt center and from there go the few stops to north station. i can't imagine it taking you more than 25-30 minutes or so.

there is also a boston water taxi which could take you from logan to the inner harbor and from there you could walk to north station no problem.

From the MASSPORT website:

Boston Harbor Water Taxi operates year-round, on-call service seven days a week between 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM

The standard adult fare is $10.00 per passenger one-way. Children under 12 are free. Tickets are sold on board the boat.

From Logan Airport: Boston Harbor Water Taxi operates at Logan Airport as an on-call or by reservation water taxi service. Take Massport's courtesy Water Transportation bus (#66) route to the Logan dock and proceed to the fence at the top of the gangway. The water taxi landing is on the floats directly in front of the dock pavilion. The water taxi captain in the top-cab position will greet you, ask for your destination, and invite you on board or direct you to the appropriate water taxi (if he does not serve your desired destination). If a water taxi is not present, call Boston Harbor Water Taxi at 617-593-9168 to summon a water taxi vessel.

free shuttle to subway is probably the cheapest and most convenient way to go in my opinion.

good luck!

Walking to the Airport is even more difficult than you think. You'd have to swim for it. It's across the harbor from North Station and pedestrians are not allowed in the tunnels. As you've read, you can take the "T" to North Station. Or a Taxi. Or the Water Taxi.

Hello,

I don't know your situation but I travel to Maine a lot and thought it might be helpful to offer an inexpensive alternative as flights to Boston aren't that cheap.

You can fly straight to Portland, ME from JFK airport via Jetblue (have a hub at JFK) for about $89 one way. Then once in Portland you can take the TriMet Red line to downtown (about $2.25 fare) where you can catch the Downeastern Train line to Wells for about $11.00. Downtown Portland is really nice if you've never been. It is a great place to grab a quick and inexpensive bite prior to heading out on the train.

Below are the websites for reference.

Good Luck and enjoy your trip.
