| Fiji | Questions regarding long-term stay in Fiji Posted: Tue March 25, 2008 06:16 AM UTC
I received a 4 month sabbatical from work (my husband and I run nonprofits in Alaska) and my husband, 2 year old twins and I are planning to spend our time in Fiji. We are mostly interested in finding a place to live verses lots of traveling around. So are looking for a longterm rental. Any suggestions on islands and any advice on how to find a longterm rental. Do you think we need to have it lined up before we go or could we get a week long and find a place once we are there? Are prices better once you are there verses on internet? Any ideas on prices. We would like 1 to 2 bedrooms, close to a nice calm beach, kitchen... We will be there Sept through Dec 08. Thanks for any advice.
Oh also another poster says the beaches in Fiji have lots of sharp shells and not nice sand? Any truth to that. First I heard of it but want to make sure not the case as young kids a foot.... |

My wife and I stayed at a rented house on the beach at Taveuni.
It was great and the beach was perfect. We also stayed on another Island and rented a house on a coconut plantation. The beach was even better their but both were fabulous. I do not have the information on the second place we stayed at, the first house was very expensive though. Here is where we stayed: http://www.fijirent.com/ The second place was great two, We stayed near Savusavu. http://www.greatrentals.com/rental-property/p213419 It has apparently been remodeled since we were their. It feels like your on a deserted Island when your one the beach their. It is unspoiled and if you see anyone it is a local walking through or people searching for fish and other seafood. Their is also a blue lagoon nearby and we have never seen anyone their. It is however heavily populated by octupus. I do not know if they are poisonous or not and we noticed only as we got their and notices literal hundreds of tentacles. A quick stamp of the feet and they retreat. We did not swim in the lagoon but it was neat however we are not sea people so we left well alone. We also went deep sea fishing from Savusavu and it was very inexpensive. I caught a Mahi Mahi and a Walu. A shark bit the top fin off my Mahi Mahi but did not touch the meat. Best fish I ever had. I hope this helps you and enjoy your stay.
