We have made a reservation to stay at the Heritage Marina on Van Ness in San Francisco. Has anyone ever stayed there?

You can check hotel reviews by past guests at www.tripadvisor.com or for an easier way, do a search with "reviews Heritage Marina Hotel San Francisco" and then click on the trip advisor or yahoo links and it will take you right to the reviews.

yvr is correct. The hotel is also reviewed on several other sites. We don't have a review on VT yet, that I could find. There are some pretty severe reviews of this hotel online. There are also several good ones. There are actually quite a few lodging options in that general area. A good general link for restaurants can be found at: http://sanfrancisco.menupages.com. The site has quite a few menus, and lists restaurants by cuisine, and by neighborhood. If you will give a general budget for lodging, and, generally, what you wish to see in The City, you'll get more specific options for lodging. Gary

I don't think I want to stay at the Heritage Marina. Thanks for your input. Can anyone recommend a motel in that area? I would prefer to stay uner $150.oo per night. As for our interests, we are open to pretty much all the tourist things or sitting at the pool, as it will be the end of our vacation.

It's a strange hotel. Very, very old and worn, but I found it clean and safe... it's just *very* basic. Just very old, with paper thin walls and single pane windows. It has a stigma in San Francisco - most people there are horrified when they discovered I stayed there. And I only stayed there because it was previously arranged for me by people who aren't from there, who obviously didn't read the views.

The one good thing is the location, which is a short walk to the shops on Union Street. 3 blocks up the hill is the zig zag section of Lombard Street and the cable cars zooming down Hyde. And from there it's less than 10 minutes to Fisherman's Wharf, or a 15 minute ride to Union Square (shops, museums, tourist info center).

That should have said "reviews", not views. But speaking of views, they do have an unobstructed view of the Golden Gate Bridge. *That* I wasn't expecting!

If you're seeking a better hotel in the same neighbourhood, I can highly recommend the Comfort Inn by the Bay. It's one block over on Van Ness and Union. Clean, new, and great staff!
