Hi Molly,
find below the "summer in Bentota"- chapter of my favorite hotel's homepage. It is very close to Bentota Beach Hotel, so their comments are valid for both hotels: "In Sri Lanka, our experience has been that even during the time of the European summer i.e. from May to October, there is ample sunshine on the Southwest coast. However, the monsoon season does lead to some limitations. We are very happy to inform you of these. We have two seasons in Sri Lanka that one could describe as the sunny and the rainy season. There are also short transitional seasons that we call inter-monsoon seasons. As a rule, these are in May and October and tend to last for about one month. During these times, the wind directions change from East to West and vice versa. These are times of unstable weather when there are great thunderstorms and heavy rain showers. The months from June to September are very sunny months. Only in the late afternoon and at night there are cooling rain showers. Overall, the monsoon season sees the humidity increase and the sea level rise taking away part of our beach. Diving is rarely possible due to the rough sea although water sports such as water skiing, surfing or boating can be recommended at any time on the Bentota river that meets the sea in front of our hotel." I've been to Sri lanka's westcoast several times;usually rain is no problem in June, but swimming in the sea is not everywhere to be recommended! Have fun and a good trip to beautiful SL !

Hi,
Firstly great month to get married ! I did in June too ! June is generally a great month with nice sunshine, but bear in mind there is no assurance when it comes to world weather. You promise the sun and there could be rain anywhere. So as i said "generally" its a great time of the year. The seas could be rough in places but you will always find a nice place to swim. Bentota Beach Hotel is a great hotel and the beach around there is nice and broard. Hope you have a great time in Sri Lanka and a very memorable wedding. All the best with your wedding planning !! Cheers.

Hi
We just got back from staying at the Taj Exotica, close to the Bentota Beach. First we found it totally safe - no concerns at all. Yes the sea can be dangerous. There was a fatality the week before we arrived, an Indian gentleman, and a near fatality while we were there. However, both ignored advice about which part of the beach was safe for swimming. The current is strong though and unless you are a very strong swimmer I would recommend not trying to swim out past the surf. Although it rained almost every night and several evenings, only a couple of days were spoiled by rain, the rest were hot and we came back with our best ever tan. Some of the locals think the weather is worse since the Tsunami. You could contact Janith at Udara Tours. He is a very friendly and honest person and I'm sure he would help allay any fears you may have about your time in Bentota. He has a saying, 'It's not always about the money' and I think he would be happy to tell you what you need to know without trying to sell you anything. He has a little gem shop between the Taj Exotica and the Bentota Beach and his family all live close by so he knows the area and weather intimately. Let me know if I can help with any other concerns you have although I'm sure you will have a great time. We plan on going back at the end of the year if we can get a good price.
