| Nice | Reasonable car rental at Nice Airport Posted: Mon March 24, 2008 09:39 PM UTC
I am trying to find a reasonable source to rent a car at the Nice airport for the month of May. Most of the websites I have checked are charging at least 870 Euros for an intermediate category car. Any suggestions?

AT Nice Airport we have booked both Eurocar and through novacarhire.com . WE find rates vary very little from one company to the next but have had no complaints with either of these.
For 30 days 870 euros sounds like a good going rate to me.

You might want to consider the "buy-back" plan with AutoEurope.com - I think you will find your best deals through them. VT member beausoleil has used this and liked it - you could contact her for more details.

870€ for a one month rental seems more than reasonable for an intermediate category car. Much depends upon the insurance you select (if any) and the options included with the car (transmission, GPS, etc) but overall I seriously doubt one can do better than what you have already found.
I often use Autoeurope: http://www.autoeurope.com/ One consideration is insurance - which can alter the price considerably. If you have chosen to self insure (using coverage which is offered by your credit card) you may want to check the coverage. I personally know of no credit card offering liability coverage for a rental period exceeding 28 days, many cover only much shorter durations. Leases are another option I use whenever I need a car in excess of 28 days. The costs per day are a bit higher but the lease includes insurance for all unknowns and eventualities. A lease is virtually worry free. I believe it to be less expensive than renting and paying for full insurance coverage. Here are several lease options: http://www.autoeurope.com/ http://www.peugeot.com/services/openeurope/en/ http://www.renault-eurodrive.com/

We're leasing a Peugeot and picking up at the Nice airport in May. If you are there for a month, it's a good idea to lease (buy-back). The Peugeot plan is called Open Europe and is handled by several agencies. AutoEurope is one and we are using AutoFrance. You must book ahead of time though. It is nearly always cheaper to arrange rentals or leases from your home country.
You can check at http://www.autofrance.net/ or telephone 1 (800) 572-9655 from the US for free Be sure to ask for a discount. They won't offer but I bet they won't turn down an offer either. We're getting the 207 which is small but not the smallest model. They have all sizes but we prefer the smaller ones because the parking places are pretty tiny and gas is very expensive. You can check the models at the AutoFrance web site above before calling so you know what you want. Good luck.
