Could anybody help me in telling the cheapest way in reaching Loen from stuttgart Germany? Also Other than Hotel Alexandra, is there any cheap hotels avaliable nearby? Our conference is at Hotel Alexandra, but I found the hotel rates to be exorbitant! beyond my budget!!!

Try www.nordfjord.no - there are some other accommodation options listed there besides Alexandra - for example Loen Pensjonat (but be aware that not all hotels / guesthouses listed on this website are in Loen, some are in other small towns in the Nordfjord area!)

I suggest you go by train to Oslo and then connection to Loen.

...you can't go by train to Loen, there aren't any railway lines in that area of Norway... You could go by train to Flåm or Otta, but you'd have to continue by bus from there.

Flying to Norway from Germany is probably cheaper than travelling by train... but cheap tickets (called "minipris") are available for domestic train travel in Norway, see www.nsb.no for more info. These tickets should be booked online in advance, and a limited number is available - price 199 NOK (or 299 if the cheapest ones are sold out) to any destination on NSB's regional lines in Norway. (Be aware that the minipris ticket isn't valid on the Flåm railway)

If you want to fly to the Nordfjord area, see www.wideroe.no (flights from Oslo and Bergen to Sandane) - the tickets aren't expensive if you book in advance, and this might well be your cheapest option!

I checked how long it would take from Stuttgart to only Oslo by train and train/ferry - about 30 hours and more. Regarding this, I would clearly prefer a flight and then carry on as already suggested.

Thank you all, flying looks like better option, seeing the time involved. The train journeys are coolly going to be 35-40 hrs including the stopover times.
