| Kyoto | Reasonably priced ryokan in kyoto Posted: Mon March 24, 2008 12:50 AM UTC
Hi, I'll be going Kyoto with my 20mth toddler & hubby in mid May. Have booked to stay at Hotel kyoto okura but would like to try 1 night in a ryokan (complete with kaiseki dinner). So far the ones (Montanago,Kinmata) I've checked out are all very expensive, any lower priced ones but also serve a good dinner? My budget is about US$350-380 per room per night (with dinner for 2 pax included)

I am also doing research on that and they are expensive. The rates at Kyoto Ryokan Yachiyo are in your price range. Check them out and see if it works for you:
http://kyoto-ryokan.co.jp/ Since our price range is very close, I will let you know if I find another ones in the price range you are looking at. Monica

BTW: try to book them from this page: http://japanican.com/special/kyoto_winter2008/hotels.aspx
I found the prices to be much lower here (depending on the time you travel) than the ones at their direct site.

Hi I know this reply is 2 weeks late but I just want to let you know that I had so much trouble with the availability of Kyoto ryokans during mid May that I finally book a western style hotel instead. I don't know your dates- I am travelling between 15th to 19th May to Kyoto and I can't find any available room in ryokans near the city area- cheap or expensive. And I must say I did a massive search. So good luck, very unlikely to hit jackpot

Thanks for the heads-up on lodging! My trip is in November and I am trying to book all I can early since it will be the fall colors season in Kyoto. Now that I know what you are going through, I will get back to research places to stay at and make a decision soon!
