what is the best way to get from Antigua to Flores? are there shuttle busses? if yes, how long does it take to travel from one destination to another, and how much would it cost?
is there is no direct commute, could you please suggest the best possible? thanks in advance. |

It takes about 10 to 12 hours. Not sure about the cost. Most of the travel agents in Antigua should be able to arrange for you. Some buses may go through Guatemala City, which may take longer.
Alternatively, you could fly there from Guatemala City. It takes about an hour and costs around USD$120 one way. http://www.taca.com

some agencies in antigua offer a shuttle service all the way to flores, but for such a long trip this is not the most comfortable.
the best way without flying is to get a shuttle to Guatemala city and then a 1st class bus with Maya de Oro. an agency in antigua should be able to make this reservation. you will arrive in Santa Elena, across the causeway to flores where you can either walk or take a tuktuk (5 quetzales)

thanks you both for sharing the info. Gabriel, do you by any chance recall how long does it take to get by a shuttle to Guatemala city, more precisely to the airport? in other words, at what time do I need to leave to catch a 9:50 am flight?

tell the agency what time your flight leaves and they will tell you what time to catch the shuttle. it's about 1 hour.

There are plenty of shuttle buses going to Guatemala City from Antigua. I would say you should leave Antigua by 7:00am if you need to catch a 9:50am flight to Flores. If you would like to stay in Guatemala City, consider the hotels in Zona 10, which is a relatively safe area and close to the airport.

From what I've been reading on recent trip reports on the TT forum, Autobuses del Norte www.adnautobusesdelnorte.com has the best buses to flores. You can also check out Linea Dorada at www.tikalmayanworld.com. If you take the overnight bus which leaves around 10PM you save yourself one hotel night and gets you into flores at about 6AM. In other words it takes about 8 hours from guatemala city on a good paved road. The one way fare is about US$20/25 I think. Good luck.

From Antigua to the city it'll be (with normal traffic at normal speed) less than an hour...
