| Chisinau | Getting to Transnistria Posted: Sun March 23, 2008 11:02 AM UTC
Hi,
Can anybody tell me if trains and buses to Transnistria are currently running? If so, what is the best way to get from Chisinau to Tiraspol and then on to Odesa? Also should I expect to pay any 'extras' for entering and exiting the region? Many thanks, Joe |

Buses run frequently from the central bus station. The bus to Odesa takes about 5 hours and actually goes through Tiraspol. Of course, there are also lots of buses to Tiraspol only. Also, there are private drivers there who pack a car with 3-4 people and go. Will be more expensive than the bus, but faster, because the cars cross borders much faster than buses.
No need to pay extra if your docs are ok. You will get a paper while entering Transnistria which you'll need to give in upon leaving. Official transfer fees are something like a couple of bucks.

The busses direct to Odessa run from the north bus station (gara de nord) You will have no problems travelling through the transnistra on one of these busses.
From the central bus station you can get a bus every 20 mins or so to Tiraspol, the price is a couple of bucks then another couple at the border to enter. They have just withdrawn the invitation letter so it is much easier to enter these days for a longer period. Your friend in Moldova http://www.visamoldova.co.uk

Come on, it's a few bucks in each case. It's not like $100 or $200. Maybe $10-20 overall.
