Easter Island Where to eat
Posted: Sun March 23, 2008 11:52 AM UTC
Hi everybody,

we're off to Easter ISland in April on a tourist package, but dinners are not included.

Which restaurants would you recommend / disrecommend for dinner in Hanga Roa ?

Many thanks

Around the small harbour of Hanga Roa are a couple of nice restaurants (I think was is named Merahi Ra'a) with good food and excellent views.
Another one we used a couple of times (although more a café with a small menu) is Café Ra'a. To be honest I can not get a connection with their website; suppose it is closed or has another owner. (I already mailed my contact on Easter Island for a confirmation).

You also could read the recent reviews abiout the restaurants on VT, see: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/South_America/Chile/Easter_Island/Restaurants-Easter_Island-R-1.html

happy travels

I got an answer from Ester Island about Cafe Ra'a.
It still exists on the same place and with the same good service. Only the owner changed.

You can not miss it on the main street of Hanga Roa, rather close to the small village square (Avenida Atamu Tekena / Te Pito o Te Henua).

We was 14 days in january 2008 on easter island.
We were most in the "Merahi Ra'a", very good fish food (Piafi) and not so expensive. It's the last in the street Te Pito Te Henua nearly at the harbor. One time we was in "Kai Mana" in the mainstreet, and one time in the "Te Moana", also in the mainstreet. Both are good but "Te Moana" is more expensive.
We disrecommend "Kopa Kavana" in Te Pito Te Henua. There were a lot of cockroach.

Have a nice time on rapanui!

I have to recommend you NOT going to La Taverne du Pecheur near the main harbour area in Hanga Roa. Unless you want the worst of France personified in the rude, arrogant owner and translated all too well into the over-priced, over-cooked dishes steer clear!

There are many better alternatives along Te Pito O Te Henua where thankfully smoking is NOT permitted in the kitchens and dismissive service isn't the norm. Dreadful dining experience all round, AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
