Ive read so many bad things about day tours to GC and wonder if someone can recommend the best tour for valueetc etc.No licence so cant drive.Is it cheaper to book before leaving or whilst there?

You can take a scenic flight to the Grand Canyon and then get on a bus there that takes you to most lookouts along the South Rim. It is the fastest way and leaves you most time for the canyon. To clarify: Flight/bus is a guided tour, so no public bus.

There's plenty of choice of transportation for the GC. Here are two companies I have booked with in advance and have had a good experience,
http://www.vegas.com/ http://www.buylasvegastours.com/ There's probably not a big difference in price between booking in advance and booking when there but by doing it on the web beforehand you have time to consider the best tour and don't waste time looking around when you get to Vegas.
