Is it possible to rent a car and drive from Tikal to Palenque? Thanks.

anything is possible. but the only problem is that the most direct route is blocked by the usumacinta river.
so if you were driving you'd have to go east to belize and up into the yucatán and all the way to chiapas. or you'd have to brave your way through the Alta and Baja Verapaz in the Guatemalan highlands. either way you're looking at a 2-4 days each way. also, i don't know of any rental car agency in tikal/flores although there may be one. what you really want to do is catch a bus to bethel and a boat across the river and then another bus to palenque. that is a 1 day trip. there are also shuttle services offering a complete tourist package from flores to palenque.
