Euro is more popular now. But if you are coming from the US I wouldn't bother to change your $ into Euro's and than to LE again!

I don't think so friend because both currencies are ok and USD will be always the first foreign currency used in Egypt.if you already have USD so why change to EURO while EURO rates is going higher day by day.

HAVE A NICE DAY FROM SUN LAND EGYPT
Euros goes high , U S goes down it is normal nowdays ..,,,, But i want to tell you something in Sharm and Hurgadah , Hotels , Sops Etc.. They change the Curencey less than Cairo ... 1 us $ = 5.4 l.e in Cairo , But there will change it for 1 us $ = 5.00 l.e 1 Euro = 8.4 l.e in cairo there will be 8.00 l.e ... That is why better to change to Egyptian money from ur country or up on arrival at airport ..... Enjoy ur time around Egypt Mohamed Bahaa Cairo Egypt

Well, Rosegirl friend, I think you are right. USD is still good currency in Egypt. I just found during my last trip in Egypt that, when having a choice, local people prefered Euro's in stead of USD. But not to the extend that one will have to exchange local currency into Euro's before going to Egypt.
A credit card will solve the problem of USD or Euro demanding services, like hotels or sleeper trains. Go with my dear friend Mohamed Bahaa's advice: use LE as much as you can in Egypt. Change some money (about 100 Euro's) at the airport of arrival and use ATM machines for additional money. Have about 250 Euro's (or USD) in cash stoled away for emergencies. Most of the time you will not need it and take it home with you again. Nothing loosed. But in case of emergencies you will have an escape.

Hamada,
I would never advice people to get their money exchanged into LE in their country of origin before leaving to Egypt! Best to have their own currency exchanged in Egypt! At the airport! Good exchange rates and no taxes or other fees charged. Ana behibik, Dora.

That is true. It is also restricted to bring Egyptian currency from abroad. It is a risk.
Exchanging rates are very well controlled whether in banks or exchanging licensed services. Best of luck
