I am turning in a rental car in Constanta (April 18) and need to get to Varna to pick up a Bulgarian Rental car. What is the best way to do this?
It looks like I would have to back to Bucharest to get a train to Varna? Any suggestions? |

Hi,
You will need to go back to bucharest for this trip. The trains do not cross on the coast. Other then that, you can take a mini bus to Vama Vechi, and walk across the border. You would then need to try and catch a ride to the closest town in Bulgaria. At that point you could take another minibus to Varna. Kind of a pain, but as far as I know its the only option there. good luck!

There are some buses from Constanta to Istanbul, I suppose they pass through/near Varna along the way.

buses from Constanta to Istanbul will charge you full price till istanbul so better is to take minibus [maxi taxi] till vama veche.
there is no direct one you will need to change at MANGALIA so it will be: 1. CONSTANTA-MANGALIA 0.45/1 hour cost 5 lei schedule: http://www.autogari.ro/Transport/Constanta-Mangalia/207-210.aspx 2. MANGALIA - VAMA VECHE 20 minute schedule: http://www.autogari.ro/Transport/Mangalia-Vama_Vec you pass the border by foot then you have to hitchhike : 1. if you have luck till varna 2. if you dont have luch till DURANKULAK and from there minibus till SHABLA [3-4 LEVA] and from SHABLA minibus to VARNA [6-7 LEVA]. look for map: http://bulway.pisem.net/romanian/page2_ro.htm I wait at the border at the bulgaria side and hitchhike and some one take me till varna. you shuld know that every one that want go sout or west bulgaria and pass vama veche must pass varna. all the best david
