| Shanghai | Food in Shanghai! Posted: Fri March 21, 2008 01:43 PM UTC
I will be visiting Shanghai in September. I have stomach issues and must only eat simple rice dishes with or without vegetables. I cannot have any oily dishes and dishes with heavy sauces. Can anyone recommend restaurants and eating establishments that serve simple food? Thank you.

Food in Shanhai is not oily, and I think that most restaurants will serve rice so you should not have any problems. You should try a steamboat where you can cook your own food in a big pot of simmering garlicky chicken stock, you can chose from meat to veggies to noodles and is very easy on the stomach.

Without any oil? That would be almost impossible unless you're sticking to fruits and Western-style vegetable salads.
I would suggest that you try Element Fresh (http://www.elementfresh.com) and Jujube Tree aka Vegetarian Lifestyle (http://www.jujubetree.com). I also have write-ups about these 2 places on my Shanghai Restaurants travel page: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/1d57/5be/2/ Actually, Shanghainese food is very "saucy" and also rather oily. Wonder why the previous poster didn't think so.
