i'm hoping to engage in some volunteering oportunities around bethlehem in summer 2009.

i'm British so i dont need to apply for an israeli visa do i?
i was thinking of flying into ben gurion airport
is this the best choice?
and how do i cross over into the west bank from there?

what are the best/cheapest/safest methods of transport
and what would stop me from gaining access firstly to israel and then to the occupied territories?

This may not be as easy as it may seem to be. My son did a similar thing a couple of years ago. Email me on VT for more info.

You don't need a visa, no. Volunteer organisations will give you info about travel etc.

Look at www.holylandtrust.org www.olivecoop.com www.unipal.org.uk

Hi there,
Ben Gurion is the international airport of Israel so yes, it's the best choice.
Bethlehem is easily reached from Jerusalem: see my Bethlehem transportation tip:

I am about to go in July to do volunteer work in the West Bank with an organizaion called the Holy Land Trust. They have a summer encounter program...I'll let you know how it works out!
Here is the website:
www.holylandtrust.org
www.summerencounter.org
there are others as well, and they can help you figure out the logistics of travel and setting up work and such.
Good luck!

You could try the Christian Peacemaker Teams. Its an ecumenical initiative to support violence reduction efforts around the world. To learn more about CPT's peacemaking work, visit their website... www.cpt.org

I visited them in April 2008. They live on a hillside near Hebron.

Oh, you dont need a visa.
