Stayed when it was The Tropicana back in 1994 so don't have anything relevant to say on that front but re location - it's not ON the Strip, just a little off which is not too far. It's near the New York, New York, MGM and Excalibur intersection which is up one end of the Strip. That is, no way will you walk the whole Strip from there but there's plenty to see that is within walking distance and as for the other end, I would recommend catching a taxi, taking the monorail (from MGM) or catching a bus up to the other end of the Strip to see around there and then walk back as far as you can and catch transport the last way back to Hooters. Enjoy your time :-)

I've walked the whole strip from there! It can easily be done, just give yourself about 12 hours :oP We started at Stratosphere Tower and walked all the way back to our hotel literally just behind Hooters, stopping at all the major casinos along the way. Granted, we didn't get home until 11am the next day but still....
Location-wise, I think it's fine. It's quite close to a lot of the major casinos (as mentioned above). I haven't actually stayed there though sorry so can't comment on that department. The breakfasts are good in the casino restaurant though! It's a bit of a dive though really, but if you're just there for the ladies then you probably won't care.

I was in Vegas in 2006 and stayed at both the Bellagio and Luxor, both on 'the strip'. Neither of which I paid for as they are both on the expensive side, it was a present lucky me! It was at the start and end of a bigger trip round Arizona/ Utah etc.
Vegas is very easy to get round both on foot and the mentioned monorail. You just must go in the Bellagio to gawp and some of the other themed hotels. I also liked the Mirage and the Venetian. That said I could have enough of Vegas quite quickly, though for some its heaven on earth. If its your type of place great, stay there and enjoy. If like me you want to see more, its quite a long way even to say the Hoover Dam, Grand canyon and Kingman (all liked by me). So hire a car (not necessary just for the city) and plan with a careful eye to distances. Have fun.

If you are looking for a budget hotel, it will be fine. It's better than the Circus Circus and the Stratosphere in my opinion. You can walk to the strip, but don't plan on doing it everytime, especially if it's during the summer. I'd rent a car or plan on taking taxi's.

I’ve not stayed at Hooters so cannot comment on the rooms but I have visited. It’s OK as long as you can put up with the tacky orange décor. The property isn’t one of the big prestige ones, the casino is quite small but has a nice outdoor seating area and the whole thing has a bit of a beach party feel to it. The location is OK, the Tropicana is next door and they have some free daytime shows and there is an interesting gambling museum. The MGM is across the road and there’s a walkway from there across the Strip to NY-NY. At the MGM you can also pick up the monorail that will take you up the Strip casinos stopping at the Paris, the Flamingo, Harrahs, LV Hilton and finally the Sahara. The monorail also goes round the back of the new Wynn property which is quite spectacular. Another plus about the location is that if you want to go Downtown (everyone should) you can get a bus (CAT) without going up the Strip which is very slow, either get the 105 up Koval Lane or go further along Tropicana to Swenson and catch the 108.
Enjoy your trip Cheers, Clive

Better get in quick cos its all change again in Vegas!
http://www.lasvegasnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=7966 I thought Hooters was very tacky and way out of the way, even tho you can take the monorail from MGM. Still thats an expensive way of travelling the Strip...its better by the gold double decker bus or the trolley bus. If you want cheap and central, have a look at Flamingo Hilton. They have great rooms at great prices and its bang in the middle of the Strip.

Thanks for that info, Hooters didn't last long then. I agree about the Flamingo being a better location, I stayed at Harrah's last year and found it very convenient and good value. It has a monorail station, a bus stop close by and there are some free shuttles that stop out the back. Another cheaper option in this area is Bill's Gambling Hall.

Hooters was never the Tropicana. It was San Remo, next to the Trop.
