| Heidelberg | Hotel recommendations Posted: Fri March 21, 2008 04:42 AM UTC
Our flight leaves Frankfurt on Tuesday 22nd July and we thought we would spend say two nights in Heidelberg before we leave. Have been looking at hotels, close to the Railway station. Several hotels which have appealed were not available on those dates. Have narrowed the choice down to Hotelo Heidelberg which is reasonably priced but am open to other suggestions. Has anyone stayed at this hotel recently? We do not necessarily need to be close to the station, but as we will not have a car we need to be fairly central.

Have a look at a website called tripadvisor and use the seek option for Heidelberg, there are reviews on lots of hotels by people who have stayed there. The downside is that small family run Hotels don,t get a mention on this website and in my experience, are often the best to saty at.

Agree with you - I usually check with trip advisor and the smaller places dont seem to feature and they are often the most pleasant places to stay.

For Heidelberg, though it is more expensive, I stay at a hotel near the center. It is where most of the acitvity is. Take a taxi, you don't want to try to park in the center anyway.

The railway station is at one end of the city.
It is a surprisingly narrow and long city. You are well out of it near the railway station. I have stayed in the Gasthaus Hackfuefel, which is really in the centre. http://www.hackteufel.de/english/eframeset.htm Possibly a bit more expensive but Heidelberg is a wonderfully romantic City and you might prefer to be in the centre and experience it at it's best

Hello kenbac
I read your response to someones posting and you recommended Hackteufel in Heidelberg. It seems an ideal location by the river in the center next to the Brewery Vetter I think. Wehave stayed at the Hollaender Hof around the corner and while pricey a very good hotel. We prefer to stay in better hotels. Would you say the Hackteufel is about a 4 star out of 5 or? Thanks in advance, Chuck
