| Naples | Local music, flea markets? Posted: Fri March 21, 2008 04:41 AM UTC
My husband and I are thrilled to have just booked our first trip to Naples! Yay us!! This will be our second trip to Italy from the US. Last year we spent a week in an apartment in Rome. We really loved pretending to be real Romans, so this year we've decided to pretend being real Neopolitans. We're staying in a tiny B&B in the historic area near Piazza Dante. I think I've read every post in the Naples forum and every tip in the Tips section. So much great info from everyone! Only two-ish questions:
1. Anyone know of some good hang-outs for local rock/punk/metal type music? Any must-see local shows coming up 25/06 - 29/07? 2. Where (and when) could we find a flea market? antique stores? Look forward to replies! |

| REPLIES to LOCAL MUSIC, FLEA MARKETS? (1 - 3) |

Hi
When you leave the main train station and approach Piazza Garibaldi, you will find that all of Naples is a 'flea market' well at least with street sellers. However, I found that east of Piazza Garibaldi in the streets bounded by Corso Umberto 1 and Corso Garibaldi you will find people selling bric a brac on the streets. This area feels a bit threatening but I have never had any problems there. There are a lot of interesting shops with bargains around Via Santa Candida which is just off Corso Umberto 1 (north) as you enter it from Piazza Garibaldi. You would not want to stay around this area at night. The university area further down Corso Umberto 1 is much more fun.

There are three such markets I am aware of, the first being the Corsa Malta, which is open every Sunday morning and is full of antique objects; the second is the Handcraft Market which is open the second weekend of every month (don't recall exact location; the third is the Via Coumunale viale A. Dohrn, which happens on the third weekend of the month and the following Saturday. Each offers different items, but I am certain you will find what you seek. Happy hunting.

I found Corso (note the "o") Malta on Google Earth, within walking distance from our pad. Piazza Garibaldi is close too.
Thanks to you both for your helpful tips!
