Grand Cayman Where to Stay - What to See
Posted: Thu March 20, 2008 05:49 PM UTC
We are looking to go to Grand Cayman for Christmas holiday 2008. We have checked out a property called the Reef, but it is on the opposite side of the island away from the main towns.
We don't care to rent a car so would need to know the approximate cost of taxis.
What is there to see of interest particularly horticulturaly?
Any info appreciated.

Since you asked specifically about Horticulture: Grand Cayman is not a volcanic island but a "limestone" one. it is one of the least interesting islands horticulturally in the region. it is very flat.it is a very rich island: money laundering for example, so things are very expensive and public transport minimal. having said that, beach and water related activities are well organized.

Though I love Grand Cayman (been there 4 times), I don't know why anyone would go there if they didn't scuba dive. For me the island is all about the diving. There are some other activities and attractions to keep the cruise ship customers busy but most of the land based activities on the island don't interest me much. There is a botanical garden on the island and every time we visit we say we'll try to see it but then we always end up spending most of our daylight hours underwater or preparing to go underwater. If you go to Cayman, learn to dive! It's wonderful! ;>D

Thanks to both for your input, perhaps we will look further before deciding on the Caymans for this holiday trip.

I see you've already been to Aruba & Belize... Let's see... One place I haven't been yet, but a friend of mine recently went to is Grenada - and my friend really loved it. I've been researching it myself and it does look lovely. I think it will be our next Caribbean destination. Looks like it has lots of horticultural possibilities! Happy travels!
