Hi!

Any great bands, art exhibits, festivals or events happening in the first week of April that I shouldn't miss? I'll be in town for a conference but will surely have some time off some days and evenings...

The New Orleans Museum of Art has an exhit of Rodrigue's work; Cajuns, Blue Dogs and Beyond katrina. I am not a fan, but My sister likes the Blue Dogs. The museum also has a fine permanent collection. http://www.noma.org/exhibitions.html

There are also a number of art galleries along Royal Street in the French Quarter.

You might also check out the New Orleans
Gambit Newspaper when you get to town. It is published every Thursday and has weekend events. http://listings.bestofneworleans.com/gyrobase/Events?StartDate=2008-04-05&page=1

Another good site for local events is http://www.nola.com/calendars/t-p/ you can check it the closer you get to your trip.

This is just some quick hits - If I come up with anything else - I'll let you know.

Hit the "Top Of The Mart...at the foot of Canal Street and go up to the top floor resturant and disco on a turning floor that will show you all of the city and the river as you sip cocktails..(call them for times)..Also there is a great aquarium along the riverwalk and riverboats that can take you up river to the Park, and back.
