Hi,
I have only about 10 hours in Abu Dhabi but wanted to get out to the desert. Please advise the best way to do this, without going for a organised tour. |

For going to desert you need a four wheel drive, knowledge of the place and a valid driver's licence. With the short time you have my suggestion is to call a tour company in AD. Maybe they can arrange to pick you up in the airport and give you few hours of desert tour. or you take a car at the airport and drive in the direction Al Ain. I used to drive to Dubai via Sweihan and I thought the drive was quiet nice. Although you cannot drive into the dessert.

i agree with the responder above. please seek a professional desert safari company.
when we were in the UAE we went on many desert adventures. i will suggest not to take any risk going all on your own even if you are experienced. company of 2 or more 4 wheelers is a must. please see my UAE pages for more information. especially check out the following: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/tt/1de22/#TL
