| Vernazza | Train from Cinque Terra to Nice, France Posted: Mon September 29, 2003 10:06 PM UTC
I will be visiting the Cinque Terra area around October 18th and wish to catch a train to Nice from there. It must be an incredible trip and I know it's possible, but can't find the details. Where do you board?
Thank you. |

Take any local train from the 5Terre to Genova P.P. My 2 years out of date timetable gives a very sparse choice of trains departing Genova for Nice. Visit www.trenitalia.com for details. The trip takes 3 or 4 hours depending on train.

The towns of Cinque Terre often are not listed on major train schedules. Depending on time and type, some trains fly through all of the other towns but stop in Monterosso. Some stop in Vernazza, for example, but not in Manarola. You can get a special train schedule pamphlet for Cinque Terre once you arrive there. Then just buy your ticket for Nice from there.
Basically, what town you board in depends on what time the train is coming and where that particular train stops. The extremely early trains don't have as many stops as the ones during the day. Personally, I went to and from Cinque Terre both times through Milan, as I was coming from Switzerland the first time and the French Alps the second time. Although I haven't done it, I'm sure that there is a train that goes along the coast right toward Nice! Also, October is low season, so tickets will be easy to get while you are there. If the people at the Cinque Terre stations confuse you, persist. There are some very helpful people and some weird, frustrating people that work there. No worries, you will figure it out! Cinque Terre is great! Try the focaccia place in Manarola! BEST I've everrrr had!!! It is on the right side as you walk up the main hill in town. And hike the trail between Corniglia and Vernazza! Fabulous! Good luck! Happy focaccia! Liz
