Hi dear VTs,
maybe someone could help me with that: 1. Do they accept Euros in coins, or only notes? 2. I was told to dress "proper" while visiting some sites. Are Jeans or Cargopants proper enough? 3. Anybody been there in the beginning of May? I've heard that some of the buildings are very cold. Do I need warm clothes throughout daytime? Would be very great if someone could help me with the one ore other question, thanks a lot in advance. Lisa |

Hi Lisa,
yes, they do accept Euro coins. They also accepted Chinese Renminbi and US-Dollars at most of the sites. The only time, we had to dress more proper, was when visiting the Kim-Il-Sung mausoleum. Even there, jeans where perfectly fine. cheers, -Stephan

No one in our group wore jeans to the mausoleum, but on all other day tours, it was not an issue. You can wear jeans to the Kumsusan Memorial Palace, but it would be appreciated by the locals if you showed more respect.
North Korean buildings are similar to Northern Chinese and older South Korean buildings... meaning insulation and heating are not adequate. But thankfully in May, the temperatures will be comfortable.

Euro coins are most likely the best you can bring. Prices are usually in Euro's and basic needs like bottled water, beer or whatever will have to be paid for using small change.
Bringing RMB and Euro change is your best bet. We were encouraged to wear shirts and ties when visiting "The Great Leader" other than that you're fine.
