Las Vegas book grand canyon tours in advance or book when we get there?
Posted: Tue March 18, 2008 01:32 PM UTC
Hi,

We are going to be in vegas for 2 nights only, first day getting there around 5-6pm. In our case, is it better to book gc tours on net in advance or book with hotel when we get there? I've been looking at different tours on the net but i have no idea which ones to pick... North/South/West? We are planning to go by helicopter, which tour do you recommend? is doing the skywalk & helicopter possible? i've seen tours with those 2 options for around usd 500 which is way over our budget, we are looking at max usd 300 per person. someone has said that it would be much cheaper to book when we get there but is it possible if we only get into town at 5pm? please recommend some tours and tour companies, thanks a lot!!

I'm sorry i can't tell you the name of the tour operator but I know there is a lot of them in vegas which work around about the same prices. We paid 230 USD for the flight and landing in the canyon. This included hotel pickup in a limousine and the whole tour lasted about 4hours.

We booked it at around about 6 at night for the following day so i wouldn't think you'd have much problem getting it booked when you arrive. Good luck

I don't know which part of the canyon I landed in sorry. We booked at one of the many tour operators on the strip there was plenty going about. we just stopped in at a few for different prices then took the best deal. We could have aalso booked through our hotel but we thought it was overpriced but I suppose this was due to them going to the hassle of booking it and needing to make there cut from it

South Rim is the 'typical' rim - you'll see the sights you've always imagined from movies, pictures, advertisements etc. But the West Rim is the closest to Vegas. The Skywalk is at the West Rim. The only rim a helicopter will take you to, is the West Rim ie South Rim is too far for a helicopter. I am confident you'll get a better price booking in advance on the net OR from someone on the Strip, over your Hotel Concierge as already advised. Obviously if you book the night before wanting to go, you may not have as much choice with your departure time as pre-arranging it, but if you're flexible with that ... Google search Grand Canyon Tours, choose departing from Las Vegas and you'll be spoilt for options and choices. It's certainly worth doing.

If you are only in Vegas for two nights I’d say book in advance then you haven’t got to waste any party time searching around for a deal. As well as by helicopter you can also get a plane to the GC although these are very small and not one for the nervous flyer (as I found out). From what I have heard the Skywalk is a bit over priced and over rated but I imagine it would be a great experience.

Here are two companies that I have booked with before, both have been very efficient,

http://www.buylasvegastours.com/

If you want to see a show and are not too bothered about a specific one I would say wait until you get there and you’ll get better prices at one of the booths in The Fashion Mall or in the Four Queens Downtown.

Enjoy your trip
Cheers, Clive
