| Luxembourg | Running around Luxembourg Posted: Tue March 18, 2008 12:40 AM UTC
Hi folks,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Now I know this is going to sound pretty dumb but I made a stupid bet a number of years ago that at somepoint in my life I was going to run around the whole of Luxembourg. Basically, I have now got to the planning stage of this bet. I have a few questions if anyone can help! 1. How long would it take? My estimate is it will be 140 miles in total is that right? 2. I need to plan a route. Is there road that goes all the way around the outside...if not what is the terrain like. Yes I am being serious belive it or not. Any thoughts / advice would be welcome. Thanks! Robin |

I have a map of Luxembourg and this looks rather promising, referring to your need of a kind of ring road around the country.
On the western border you could run most time along the Moselle (in the south-west) and another river named Our (to the north). From a little town named Dasbourg you would have to get a bit inland, and to making up those too few kilometres you would run into Belgium in the north and get back closer to the border again in Bastogne on the western side. Then it would be straight forward down to Petange, and from there you could use small roads back to the Moselle. The road between Bastogne and Petange is a major road, so not really good for running - but I am sure there are smaller roads, you would just need a hiking or cycling map. Your 140 miles would be about 220 kilometres - you know, the rest of the world uses kilometres, and it would be good if you already got used to it, so you get a feeling for the distances on the signs during your run ;-) But the calculation could be about correct. As there are many forest areas I am sure you would find small gravel roads and tracks, so you would not have to run (and kill your muscles) on sealed roads all the time. I suggest, get a cycling/hiking map as soon as possible, so you can plan in detail. And just keep on training! Sissi
