I have my train ticket already but not my bus ticket or a guide. Can I purchase the bus ticket when I get off the train? And also, can I book a guide when I reach the ruins?

You can inquire about day tours to Machu Picchu in any of the local tour companies in Cusco. There are many around the main plaza area. If you want to independently experience MP, you can go directly to Aguas Calientes by train via Peru Rail and once you arrive in AC, you can just take any of the buses that go up to MP (they leave every 15 minutes or so and the ticketing office is easy to spot as it is right in the heart of AC). The bus drive from AC to MP is not too long--less than 30 minutes. Goodluck & enjoy magical Machu Picchu!

BTW...There may be guides available at the Machu Picchu ruins for a private or group tour; however, I've heard that entrance ticket to MP may no longer be available at the entrance itself. It may be easy for you to get your Machu Picchu entrance tickets in advance and set-up tours/tour guides in advance in Cusco, so your MP adventure is guaranteed. Better be safe than sorry! Yes, you can purchase the bus ticket when you get off the train. I paid 9 US dollars.

I just posted a warning tip re: MP entrance ticket in my Machu Picchu page. Go check it out for the updated information on where you can buy your MP entrance ticket(s) (either in Cusco or Aguas Calientes). Again, buy your bus ticket in AC and you can hire a guide upon reaching MP. Goodluck!!
