| Lago di Garda | Lake Garda on my own Posted: Mon March 17, 2008 02:54 PM UTC
Hi there,
I plan on traveling to lake Garda on my own in July either from Austria or from Rome.( I am Backpacking Europe) What is the safest and easiest way to get there? (I don't have a car) Is there a bus or a train to take. Which town at lake Garda is the easiest to get to, but still very beautiful? Any Hotel suggestions? Or is there even a tour for younger people around Lake Garda? Thanks a mil for any replies :) it will help me a lot!! G. |

Hi
Lokk at hte tip i wrote in my Torri page: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/4c02d/228a3/9/ If arriving from Rome, your best option is to start from Verona. You can reach from the verona porta Nuova station (eithr by train or by bus) any town on the south and east shores with a single move. If arriving from Brenner Pass along the Adige River valley you can also consider to stop at Rovereto, and then reach Riva del Garda (at the far north of the lake) by bus. from there, yu can take the buses along the estern (Verona) and Western (Brescia) shores.... Or even take a boat. As for what to see... Most of the villages are charming... But I expecially love Malcesine Ciao Francesco

Hi! I traveled to Lake Garda by myself last June, and found it very easy to get around. I traveled by train from Padua to Peschiera on the southern end of Lake Garda, from here I caught the bus which leaves from outside the train station, and travels all around the Lake, stopping at the towns and villages on the way.
When I was planning my trip,as I was relying on public transport, I thought that I would have to stay near to the train station, but it is very easy to get around. I stayed in Brenzone, which suited me fine - quiet, with a few bars, restaurants etc, a small beach and the ferry or bus meant I could get to other places. Malcesine, Sirmione, Garda etc are larger, and probably have more to do. Try www.gardainforma.com for a run down of each resort, so You can decide what suits you - i.e. beach, water sports,Spas, walking, sightseeing, nightlife lively/ peaceful, etc. I stayed at the Boutique Hotel Club Da Baia in Brenzone. It was popular with windsurfers. I booked through www.activehotels.com. I usually recommend Venere.com and Booking.com for anyone looking for accommodation. Please read mine and other VTers Lago di Garda pages for more tips and photos. Have A Great trip, and feel free to contact me for more info. Best Wishes Sue x

Good responses-
If I were to pick a place to stay on the lake, it would also be Malcesine. Very Charming, Medieval, with a castle looming above- on the east coast. Though like the rest of the lake, will be crowded in July. ciao
