| Cusco | Price of cab from Cusco to Pisac Posted: Sun March 16, 2008 05:15 PM UTC
I am arriving in Cusco at around 6am. I was wondering what the best way was to get to Pisac. The hotel we are staying at offered to send a cab to meet us at the airport for $20. Can I get a better deal directly at the airport???
Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks MLW |

i doubt it. if you do, it will only be a few dollars less... and probably with a shady driver.

At the airport, I paid 8 SOLES (2.5 US DOLLARS approx.) to the taxidriver.

Try going directly to your hotel from the airport (they should send complimentary transportation/shuttle service to and from their hotel), then either take the full day Sacred Valley tour @ $12/person, which includes a stop in Pisac along with other stops at: Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, and Urubamba, etc. OR take a local bus to Pisac from Cusco, which is about an hour's ride away. Again, your options: the cheap bus ride at no more than $1 one way, the full day tour @ $12 that includes a stop in Pisac, or the R/T $20 via a taxi cab. The choice is yours! Goodluck & enjoy beautiful Peru!
Note: You can go to Pisac any day of the week. It's actually preferrable to go there any day other than the famous Sunday market as it tends to be crowded and prices tend to be higher then.

As mentioned many of the hotels offer complimentary pick-up.
On the other hand while $20 sounds a bit high... I'm in Peru right now and the fuel prices are a bit higher than at home! My driver just took his car in for the 40,000 mile check up and it cost him over 600 local currency (over $200 US). Local wages aren't that good here, so that can't absorb the prices as well as cabs in some other counties. Unlike another S. American country I won't mention... this country doesn't have a natural supply of oil. It's hurting them worse than us. The guide I hired in Cusco back in December, charged $100 a day and was worth every penny of it. He hauled our rears all over the place and gave us the tour of a life time. I'm known for being two cents cheaper than Wal-mart, but don't regret spending that bit extra for the great service.
