Re: HELP 17 hours transit in DOHA Monday in July from 6 am to 23 pm Posted: Tue March 25, 2008 02:21 PM UTC
Wow, it seems to be a long transit. It would be very hot during July. I would advise you get a hotel to rest for the day before depart. Normally the airline will arrange the transit hotel. you can check with the airline.
Well, it is a safe place to visit. I had gone shopping alone and just usual, the men will stare. But proper attire should be ok. If you are going with your wife, it would be anything will happen.
I am not sure whether you like spicy food, if yes, you can try out the Indian breakfast here. You can order "Roti Prata" with curry. You can also find some fast food breakfast - Burger King, McDonalds. Then, you can head to the city and gave a glance of its building sculpture.
During 5pm, you can go to Al-Corniche to have a walk. Nice sea breeze. You can also take a ride on the boat to see the scenery of Doha city.
Getting a driver to airport is not a problem, just that you have to ask for the price first.
Nothing special to buy here, unless you have the time to go to the Souq, where there are spices, craft etc. It only opens in the evening.
I hope these tips might help a bit.
