Yes, hotels in Zhuhai are much cheaper than in Macau. There are many within sight of the border point. Last year I stayed in one right on top of the bus station, but when I was there in january it was under reconstruction. So I stayed in its sister round the corner. Expect to pay less than 200RMB for a 3-star. They're all offer similar amenities for same price.
I never book Chinese hotels online (or any other way) - they don't usually hold the room without payment. Just turn up - there's plenty of others if one's full (unlikely).

hello john
may I know if it is possible to crossover from macau to zhuhai at maybe 11 pm? Our flight arrives late and I would like to go to a hotel in zhuhai instead of macau.

I really can't say definitely. I know it's open pretty late, but things such as buses tend to stop quite early. And the shopping mall beneath the gate closes at 10pm. The border crossing at Shenzhen is open 6:30 am - midnight, so this may be similar.

Hi, I will try my best to answer your questions:
Of all the hotels you listed, I stayed in Popoko hotel before. The hotel is within walking distance to the Gongbei border checkpoint - about 10 minutes walk. A nearer hotel to Gongbei border checkpoint is the Jinye hotel which I believe is better and therefore cost more than Popoko. I don't know about www, easyzh, but I booked the rooms at http://www.sinohotel.com most of the times I went there. If cost is your consideration, Popoko hotel is the choice. Most of the rooms face one side of the sea. The hotel also has a restaurant which serves Chinese food. The dim sum in the morning is great in terms of price! Let me know if you need any other tips. Cheers.

Hi Yeo,
tks for the advice. i aslo booked via Sinohotel.com with a confirmed reservation for Zhuhai Fortune Hotel. I m so doubtful of the reservation. Do i hv to make any payment to secure the reservation or call direct to the hotel before departure to ensure my booking is valid. i found out that this hotel is quite near to the Gong Bei border by hoping that my family members will not need to walk far from the border. any idea of this hotel ? As the hotel rate in Macau is pretty high during weekend, i have planned to stay in Zhuhai for 2 days but crossing border to Macau for day city sightseeing. Any idea of guesthouse in Macau that you stayed before? i found that not many have email / websites which allow online booking. Pls advise Thank you Tan

Hi Tan,
From my previous experience with the agent, there was no glitch and we can pay at the hotel. I have not made any call nor any payment for the confirmed booking. Perhaps you can send an email to the agent to get a second confirmation. I have not stayed in Zhuhai Fortune Hotel before, but in Popoko, Jumbo and 2000 year hotel. I have no idea of the location of this hotel. However, I trust it should be near to Gongbei if it says it is. Gongbei Border Gate is a big shopping complex! The walk to the Checkpoints itself may take 5 to 10 minutes without straying to the shops! Ya, I think if you don't mind the crossing the checkpoints, it is okay. After entering Macau, you can choose to take the free Casino buses to a favourite Casino or take Bus No. 3 for your sightseeing tours in Macau. I cannot advise you on the guesthouse in Macau as I have not stayed in one before. While in Zhuhai, you can try their public buses which include sightseeing Bus No 1 on a route to most of the scenic spots. Try and explore New Yuanming Garden and enjoy a massage at the Chinese Medicine Valley next door. Actually the Chinese Medicine Valley has been changed to a big massage centre with over 100 masseues. An hour costs only about 80 CNY. Should decide on a spa, try the Ocean Spring Resort outside Zhuhai. There are many different flavours of pool - Lingzhi, ginseng, milk, coffee, wine, etc, etc, etc and of course the dirt-cleansing fish. After that, take the free flow of fruits and drinks, relax and gaze at the setting sun. For an exotic dinner, go to the nearby bungalow-like restaurants and end the evening with a fantastic show in the resort. Cheers!

Hi Tan,
I think you make the right decision to stay in Zhuhai and cross the border to explore Macau. It is good because you get to visit two places and enjoy a cheaper stay. I believe a confirmed reservation is such and I don't doubt that when you arrive at the hotel, you won't get your accommodation. But to be very very sure, you may need to fax your credit card details over. Another way is to get the confirmation from the agent and the agent will get it confirmed with the hotel. Indeed the hotel is quite near to the border, very much nearer than our Causeway checkpoints. If there are ladies in your family members, it will take a longer time to reach the hotel because there are too many distractions along the way, especially at the Gongbei Plaza.... shops and shops of cheap things, hahaha. The hotel you booked is just next to Jinye, a few metres from the entrance to the Gongbei Plaza... I have not stayed in Macau before but from what I read, a budget hotel would be better since you are with family members and a guesthouse may not be that suitable. Enjoy.
