Hi, I'm going to sound like a dill but I can't find the original question I posted yesterday about what are some nice areas to live within reasonalble proximity to the airport. Anne12 replied with some useful information but I didn't write it down and I can't find that either. Any advice? Anne12, are you out there?

Hi I am a Cairns resident too.

My list would include Freshwater--Whitfield--EdgeHill--Aeroglen or one of the closer beach areas of Machans Beach (a laid back hippy kind of place} or Holloways Beach all close to the airport.I would give the South side of Cairns a miss because the traffic is pretty heavy these days. Also places like Lake Placid or Karumunga and Stoney creek estate are all handy.It is a local assumption to avoid areas starting with M like Manunda--Manoora--Mooroolbool known for the reputation of gangs and or government housing estates which are crowded. It depends if you are buying or renting a property or how long you are planning to be here--if you are on a holiday then there are some really nice resorts around North Cairns and Cairns Central.

Thanks for the advice. I would be renting and thinking of staying a minimum af one year. I apprediate the local knowledge.
