| Geneva | Getting from Gare des Eaux-Vives to Gare de Cornavin in Morning Rush-Hour Posted: Sat March 15, 2008 12:20 PM UTC
On a Tuesday morning, we will be arriving at Gare des Eaux-Vives by train with an arrival time of 07:58. We need to catch a plane from GVA airport with a departure time of 11:35. I understand that there are frequent trains from Gare de Cornavin taking 6 minutes to get to the airport (correct me if I'm wrong on this).
Considering it will be rush-hour, how do we get from Gare des Eaux-Vives to Gare de Cornavin? We don't mind paying for a taxi if that is the best way. Will we have enough time to catch the flight with comfort? |

According to sbb.ch, you can take a tram from the stop just outside the Gare des Eaux-Vives, called Genève, Amandolier (SNCF), to the Cornavin train station. For the easiest connection (least walking), take Tram 16 (direction Vernier, Avanchet) to Genève Cornavin. From there, enter the station and take a train to the airport. As an alternative with a little bit more walking, you can take Trams 12 or 17 (Lancy, Bachet-de-Pesay) to Bel-Air (Cité) then walk to the Cornavin train station.
If everything is on schedule, you should get there by 9AM, with plenty of time to catch your 11:35 flight.

As the other poster already mentioned: Tram to Cornavin and then train. I would add that it is also quite cheap: Get a single ticket "tout Geneve" for 3,- francs from the ticket machine at the Tram stop. This ticket is valid on all public transport within Geneva, so the train to the airport is included.

We went on our trip the beginning of this month.
The last morning we got up even earlier in Evian due to previous unreliable taxis. Of course, this time the taxi was also early so we managed to catch the train to Geneva half an hour earlier than scheduled. We took Tram 16 to the other station, and the train to the airport to go home. We had two hours to kill at the airport. The only thing to note was that the tram was packed full during this rush-hour. It was difficult with our 6 year-old daughter and bag to shove into the tram. Thanks again for all your help.
