North Shore Line, you'll have to change trains. I would say go to Hornsby from Epping, change onto the train there to Roseville. Time would be about an hour I guess.
White or non-white makes no difference! Many city companies who have female employees who work after 7pm give them taxi home rather than train but they're really not dangerous. You can travel in the same carriage as the guard. You can check the trains at www.cityrail.info

i would love to reassure you that sydney trains are perfectly safe but alas they are not perfectly safe - they are pretty safe
do sensible things like stand in lighted areas on the station near the emergency help button maybe - keep a low profile if any yahooing happens and yes, if you travel in the back carriage I think it is - then the guard is just through the door - it is marked but don't be nervous, just be sensible - and I am happy to inform you that colour doesn't make in difference - sydney is a rainbow coloured city now but if you are pretty and young - well then that brings hassles of its own

Hi Vpas
You can travel from Roseville on a city-bound train and change at either North Sydney (where trains to Epping start) or at Town Hall. The suggestion given by Colin would also work, you'd just be travelling in the opposite direction. Agree that you need to check on www.cityrail.nsw.gov.au The later and further you travel, the less people will be on the train so it would be preferable to complete your travel earlier rather than later in the evening. Also there are no express trains after 7pm so you'd be most likely stuck on a slow train which stops at most stations. As a female daily train commuter, the trains are reasonably safe. Just avoid eye contact with fellow passengers and try and ignore any loud passengers!! Also, the guard's carriage is usually in the middle of the train, not the back. Chances are that there will be 6 carriage trains at your travel time. Hope this helps.

I agree with all that has been said I believe no matter where you are you need to use common sense I have traveled from Central to Sutherland about 45 minutes - 60 minutes depending if it is an all stations train many times after 9pm at night by myself . I pick a crowded carriage if possible near the guards section of train but as it nears end of line I move carriages to make sure I am not alone in carriage I also keep my mobile phone in my hand just in case . Platforms have night safe areas marked on them so wait there on platforms as this is usually where the guards carriage will be when train pulls in to station .And always check you are not followed when you get off train .I have never been hassled but i am 53 and white but I still am very aware of everyone around me on the trip .
