Palm Springs back again!!!
Posted: Fri March 14, 2008 11:09 PM UTC
Hi, back again!!

I've noticed that hotels are either near W Arenas Rd such as Desert Hills Hotel, or lower down on E palm canyon drive, such as Desert Riviera Hotel.

Where would you advise to stay that is near everything?
Thanks for your help

South Palm Canyon drive is the main drag for Palm Springs. There are a few hotels nearby such as Best western and Holiday inn and the hellishly expensive Westin.
If you stay on E Palm canyon drive you will either need a car or take a bus in to the main area with restaurants. E Palm canyon drive continues for miles past Cathedral city, Rancho Mirage Palm Desert and beyond so check exactly where you'll be when you book.

Don't miss the aerial tram while you are there or a hike in the indian canyons.

Hi Sarah, as for me, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, et al, are boring desert towns, filled with retirees and a large gay population. There was just an article the Los Angeles Times last week. My older clients and friends as well as my gay friends love it out there, but god knows why, unless you are into golf or tennis. Years ago many folks in the entertainment industry used it as an escape to get away from the "business". In the summer it stays up over 100 degrees, and does not cool off at night. On a positive note, the desert can be very pretty and there are many trails to hike. But usually you need to be done by 10:30 before it gets too hot. The tram up to the mountains above Palm Springs is cool as you have a great view overlooking the desert. Plus it is about 20 degrees cooler, plus your in the pine trees. A number of destination resort/hotels have sprung up if you like that kind of thing and there are now some quality restaurants. Karl

Being neither gay or an old age pensioner, I think Palm Springs has enough things to offer to warrent a few days there.
The biggest plus (as both sarah and I are from the UK)is heat and sunshine (something we don't get all that much of for much of the year) and you sure can't beat it for that!

I can't comment on where to stay as I always stay in a condo in La Quinta....but I disagree that you have to be old or gay to go to Palm Springs. We go every year to soak up the sun and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere-and we have two small children. We enjoy the tram ride and hiking. Shopping. Wonderful Mexican food. etc, etc. I would suggest that you have a car while there as most of the sites are spread a part.

I would recommend staying either in Palm Springs or Palm Desert. While there, if before May 17th - you must see the Palm Springs Folies - it is a wonderful musical show with singing, dancing and fabulous costumes and productions. No one is under the age of 50 - I know! It sounds crazy, but the show is a wonderful experience and you will feel uplifted seeing it! www.psfollies.com
The Palm Springs aerial tramway is a great way to spend the day - take a jacket - it can be 30 degrees cooler at the top - hiking is great up there - bring your camera and the food at the top isn't bad either. If you play golf - this is a golfers haven, courses everywhere. The Palm Springs Spa Hotel offers a great pool, spa facilities and gaming casino and is very centrally located. The Hyatt hotel in Palm Springs is also right on the main street. I live in La Quinta, and Old Town La Quinta is a nice place to stroll and shop and dine. Weather is hot from July through September - but stay by the pool and use sun screen and enjoy yourself!

Palm Springs Re: back again!!!/ Palm Springs has so much to offer....

Hi:

We have been 4 times to Palm Springs, and would love to return.

For us gals -- it has absolutely the BEST shopping, hands down.
The El Paseo Drive is a mini version of Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles.
But, you must drive out to the Factory Outlet Malls in Cabazon --
it is absolutely ENORMOUS and the best I have ever seen.

Every Thursday night the Main Street in Palm Springs becomes a giant
Farmers Market with wonderful food, clothing, and shops. It's a huge
Street Fair and I highly recommend it.

Well, the restaurants are so fantastic, and so numerous, that you will
really have to make some difficult choices, because they are all great!!

We enjoyed THE RIVER, it is just like a mini Disneyland, with lots of music
and lots of charm.

Of course, the golfing is some of the best in all of USA.

To be honest, I am in love with Palm Springs, and would like to live there
someday.

Cheers !!

We can add an additional category to those who enjoy PS....those with a hyper shopping gene! ;-) (plus there are the Indian Casinos and some of the shows are pretty good) To each their own and may all have great travels, but you won't see me in PS, not when I have Malibu. Best regards to all, Karl
