Let 1 US$ be the minimum at restaurant or a small service. 10 US$ for Hotel services at the check out or so or a driver of a good tour. 20 US$ for a driver of long tours. In my own opinion. NO RULES, but it is just a matter of generousity, you can even give nothing.

I agree with the other guy, just remember that most people who work in Sharm leave their families in Cairo and wortk non stop for 2 or 3 months between breaks. Average monthly salary is LE800 for hotel and catering staff. If they are nice to you LE50 is nothing to you but makes a huge difference to them, be generous!

Egyptians will test you to see how much you will pay for anything - if you grossly overtip, expect to grossly overpay as well. True, it means more to the average Egyptian than is might to the average tourist but it is this philosophy that makes it diificult to enjoy many of the sites as well as basic services. Tourists unknowingly throw money at locals, encouraging them to expect that treatment from every ex-pat. You'll see what I mean.

Most people are very pleased with 10-15 percent of the cost of the service - it does depend on the effort involved, however and some drivers, etc.. will give outstanding service/effort and should be tipped accordingly.
