Have a look at the train times on http://www.renfe.es/horarios/english/index.html
This is one of the best ways to travel. The train station in Granada is within about a 30 minute walk of the Plaza Nueva or Cathedral area (below the Alhambra). Think about getting a booking using a Credit Card for entry to the Alhambra in advance. Some days are very popular and difficult to get tickets. www.servicaixa.com

Be careful with the timed tickets to the Alhambra, the stated time is to enter the palace complex (the best bit) and NOT to enter the grounds. We ended up being refused at the palace entrance. It was quite a long walk from the main entrance and we had no idea about this timing. We went out bought more tickets and went in again, I do not recommend this! This was in November last, queues will be longer at busier times and you might consider buying online. You will love it.
